Funimation Licensing Spree!

Funimation have recently aquired quite a few shows over a very short period of time. There are a couple of shows that I have never heard of and one in particular I have been hoping would get licenced.

Gunslinger Girl -Il Teatrino- This is, well, obviously, the sequel to Gunslinger Girl. Both series are based on the manga by Yu Aida and follows a group of cyborg girls who work as government assassins. Interesting stuff this show, even though I havn’t even seen all the fist series yet, it’s just in backlog and needs watching, and now the second series is going to be coming out what other reason do I need to get the rest of series one watched? Funimation have launched an official site for the second series here
Strain: Strategic Armored Infantry - This Sounds like an interesting series that I will be picking up on it’s release. It centers around a 16-year-old girl named Sarah Werec who loses her military status when her brother seemingly becomes a traitor to her government. Sarah struggles back up the ranks as a common pilot in hopes of confronting her brother. I am hoping it has a Zone of the Enders feel about it, as from the pictures I have seen the Mecha in the show look like they might have a sprinkle of Zone of the Enders in there! here’s hoping.
Shigurui: Death Frenzy - In the story, The one-armed Fujiki and blind Seigen Irako fight a tournament match to determine the true successor to Kogan Iwamoto, Japan’s greatest swordsman. Have not seen a good samurai show in quite some time, I may give this one a try, will wait and see what reviews say about it first though, as samurai shows tend to be hit or miss with me, ones like Ninja Scroll I can watch over and over, so I will just wait and keep my eye out for more information on this one.
Kenichi the Mightiest Disciple - A Martial Arts Comedy about Kenichi. kenichi is an ordinary student who has been bullied all through high school — until a girl convinces him to join her dojo and become a disciple of many martial arts styles. - Not seen anything of this show untill I heard about it being licenced, sounds like it could be worth a watch though, Funimation have only licenced the first 26 episodes, but I am sure they will be swift in getting the rest if it turns out to be a hit!
Save Me! Lollipop - A Romantic Comedy about a girl named Nina who swallows a Crystal Pearl after mistaking it for a lollipop. - doesn’t exactly jump out at me, but for those of you who like these kinds of shows, Funimation are planning to release it as a DVD set straight away later on this year.
